American Soldier

1. I find this image the most powerful because it is when Fisher finally begins to take the whole "being a soldier" deal seriously, and changes up his act. In this photo he is reporting for his first trip to Fort Carson, and he is actually excited for it.

2. All of the images work together to tell a story because it shows the paths of life that Fisher took when becoming/training to be a soldier. As well as the stories behind his relationships, his training, on the job, and his drug problems, and then how he overcame all of his issues.

3. The captions enhance the photographs because when you are just looking at the images by their-selves it will look just like any other soldier training for the army, but once you read the captions it explains how there is more struggles that are happening in his life "behind the scenes".

4. Ian Fisher wanted to join the army, but he had to receive his diploma first, so he did. And on June 1st, 2007 he was recruited for the army. He had meetings with his recruiter about training and where he would have to locate to, Iraq. He goes through quite a bit of drama during training because his house and the training facility were so close so every weekend he would go home. This made his parents feel like "coming home every weekend wasn't allowing him to feel like he was actually in the army". So he started staying there for weeks at a time. Fisher also came across problems with doing drugs recently after his breakup with his girlfriend Kirstin Oliver, but he was able to start controlling himself when he would would recruit to places for the army which left him sober. Ian says his goodbyes to his family and friends on September 3, 2008 when he recruits to Iraq for the army. His job there included capturing terrorists. When he was in Iraq he had gotten back in touch with a past girlfriend, Devin and 3 days after he had gotten back from Iraq they were married.
